Biography

Jim Ellor is Professor in the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work at Baylor University. Jim joined the Baylor faculty in August of 2004. Jim has worked as a medical social worker and gerontologist for over 40 years. Dr. Ellor spent his first 8 years practicing social work as a community organizer and then as a medical social worker at Augustana Hospital and Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He has been an ordained a Teaching Elder since 1983 in the Presbyterian Church, USA. Rev. Ellor’s ministry has always reflected his bi-vocational call to serve older adults in both the church as well as in the community. He has served as a Parish Associate in 6 different churches and as part - time on-call chaplain at Edward Hospital, in Naperville, Illinois as well as the chaplain to the Methodist Home of Chicago. Dr. Ellor was one of the founding Directors of the Center for Aging Religion and Spirituality housed at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. This program trained long term care chaplains.

Research Area

Jim is the Senior Editor of the Journal of Religion Spirituality and Aging. He is currently Co-Senior Editor of the Encyclopedia on Death and Dying to come out next fall of 2019.
